It’s been 3 years since I've been living independently. Independent but dependent in God, I believe it really takes His strength, wisdom and guidance when your living away from your comfort zone.
The first year was really the tough one. The adjustment involves both physical and emotional. The simple decisions you need to plan carefully as young adult like; what to eat and how to balance your budget between your cost of living and family needs.
Regardless, it’s a challenge accepted. It’s been my bucket list since college: to work in Manila. I wasn't thinking about the traffic or the trajectory level of crimes and criminals; I was just really aiming about my dream and my goals in life.
My dream is to apply and experience in real life the course I took in college, Food Technology. Yes, you can apply it also in Davao, but there is wider opportunity here in Manila. To be in a Research and Development department is the most wonderful place for a Food technologist to explore and develop his skills.
My goal is to see the world, to discovery more about life. I inevitably believe maturity comes when you get out of your comfort zone, meaning away from my beautiful hometown Davao, my friends and family.
Prior my departure date, I ask God’s grace to protect me from any danger and direct me to people who will help me grow up professionally and personally.
Then the plan begin, I was invited to a church, Victory in Fort by my office mates, knowing that I was looking for a Christian Church here in Manila. That was Christmas season, and I found it very amazing, not just the message shared, not just the flags all around the room, nor the beautiful smiles who greet you as you enter, but rather the design plotted in the stage. It was so beautiful. I remember the big wonderful Christmas tree, so much light, so much warmth, so much like home.
Way back in Davao we don’t have stage designs in church, I guess that’s the reason why I instinctively adore the stage designs every series in Church. Every month, a new themed series is taught, to capture it more stage designs are built in accordance to the series. It’s like in school, your chemistry subject is upgraded every month, to remember it you need images and graphs. In church it’s your spiritual walk that’s upgraded. Subjects like, fighting your faith, building up your compassion to people, your character as a disciple, your obedience to God’s call, how you handle money and how to deepen your relationship with Jesus is pictured and designed in the stage. That work is created by the Production Design Ministry.
As I get involved in Victory, God really answered my dreams, goals and my prayer; directing me to people whom will help me be a better individual.
I found friends that turn out to be a family. The overflowing grace of God, built me confidence to relate to different people with various life experiences.
Production Design Ministry become my second family here in Manila, after my smallgroup family. Every laugh, every stories and every overnight while making stage design brings our relationship closer together and learn more with their life. Other than art, it turn out that we love selfies, groupies and drizillions of jokes, that makes our bonding worth remembering..
God really bless you, not with what you expect nor what the world dictates. He will bless you with what He think is more important- one of which is your relationship with other people. Relationship really matters to God. How we apply His word, how we build life with other people and how we help other people become better than us matters to Him.
The reason why I come to love Manila, is not by the number of malls around, nor top-rated restaurants.
The reason why I come to love Manila is by the people I meet and continue to met.
