I climbed a mountain. First time but definitely not the last. It was last January 15, 2015 at Pico de Loro, Nasugbu, Batangas.
Ever since childhood, I dream to climb a mountain.
To me there’s a mystery to it. It’s height that’s so close to the sky, you feel God’s presence. It’s the picturesque view on top. It’s brilliantly orchestrated wilderness that challenges you how to get to the top but much more how to get out.
Into the mountain, I found myself like a dot. Into the mountain, I sort out what’s important in life.
There was once a quote that says “Leave your life each day as if you would climb a mountain. An occasional glance towards the summit keeps the goal in mind, but many beautiful scenes are to be observed from each new vantage point” (Anonymous).”
1. Climbing a mountain is figuratively like living life.
Each day as we made our way to our personal mountains, we can choose to walk daintily, walk stretching out our conserve energy to get to the goal. Or even walk annoyed how far it is and why are we keep on doing it.
Whatever we chose to, inevitably there’s always an exquisite beauty and adventure in every mountain (even in our personal ones).
So, savor the challenge. Stop complaining. Do nothing in haste, enjoy every moment in that mountain whether in you’re at the bottom, along the trail and most especially when you’re at the peak.
Remember, when life brings you mountains, you don’t waste your time asking why; rather you spend your time climbing over it.

2. It isn’t the mountain ahead that wears you out; it’s the trail going to it.
Reality, every mountain worth climbing has a challenging route and that’s the best part of it.
Like life, it isn’t the destination but it’s the journey. The challenges you face. The unexpected twists and struggles of the trail. The disappointments you overcome. The skills and courage you never know you have.
No matter what comes along the way, even in life; whether it rocky, steep, slippery or grassy, enjoy it and conquer it. Know that in the end of trail, there’s no dream that mustn’t be dared.
3. Into the mountain, you gain friends.
There hasn’t been any mountain trekker, I observe that climbs alone. They come as couples and groups either big or small. It will be so lonely, just to be on your own and just have selfies.
Same as in life, you may have your own pace, your own realization, your own perspective of the mountain, but it’s really better if you walk together with your friends.
Interacting with people with jokes as everyone aim to achieve the top. Encourage by their cheers to vanquish your greatest enemy which is yourself. Taking groupies as you pause and inhale some fresh air. Sharing the most daring and intense trail, are among the fulfilling things of climbing a mountain.

4. From the beginning think what may be the end
Along the route, tiredness, irritation, drought, and annoyance are among the common feelings you have, but what keeps us motivated is the anticipation and the hope to reach the summit.
Don’t give up, it’s almost there. It’s within your reach, just keep climbing, fighting and holding on, same as in life.
To experience this exquisite feeling of amazement when you see the world at a higher level–literally and figuratively is the best and most rewarding part. The iconic, spectacular and admirable features of how God orchestrate everything. It’s in the mountain.
Into the mountain, you appreciate life.
Into the mountain, you have freedom that comes with the knowledge that no mountain can break you.
